Because it tanks a whole hell of a lot better than my ferox did and I can fit a lot more on it. I had 100 mill isk at 700k skill points or some such like I said, so why not get it? I find cruise missiles worthless in level 3's, they do pitiful dmg to frigates and similar dmg to heavy's on cruisers. Why spend 200-300isk per missile when a 20isk missile will do the same dmg.
I am not a casual player, I don't have months to wait for my skills to build up to the multi-millions. I wanna do level 3's with ease right now and I can with my Raven. I've got 200 mill sitting in my account after getting all +3 implants. If there was another ship I could upgrade to easily right now I would, but you need months of skills to upgrade from this point.
Now I'm just looking for ways to do level 3's even faster, so I am upgrading my missile skills a bit more and my drone skills so I can kill faster. I personally can't believe people have to wait till they have T2 items and 5+ mill sp's to do level 3's with ease... I was doing them with under 1 mill sp's. I still don't have a single T2 item on my ship and don't plan to for a while.
It's no lamer to use a Raven on lvl 3 missions than it is to use T2 items on lvl 3 missions, or to need 5+ mill sp's to do lvl 3 missions. Big deal, you can use a cheap ship and do "most" lvl 3's. I had a ferox after 1.5 weeks of playing... I've moved on to bigger and better things.
I bought my 1st raven when i had 1,5 mil sp and was soloing even lv4s with it.. All you need to know is how to skill your character.
And its wise decision to go for the raven when u play lv3s as soon as possible cause when your character doesnŠt have the skills to use good equipment when you are still quite "young" and it can be quite hard to finish some missions then. In a Raven you are always safe to fly lv3s and also have much more firepower so you can finish missions much faster. You wont need as many hardeners on a lv3 when you use a raven so you can put on 1 or 2 target painters so that even torps deal a decent amount on damage against cruisers... and against frigs you just need a few light or med drones...
When you have 5 mil sp on your character and still cant really use a raven you just dont know how to skill a character....
i could positively, absolutely not agree more with you on that. i hopped in a raven at approx~800k SP, now at 2mil i am soloing most level 4 missions w/o a problem, some there is a warp out to recap and shield and jump back in the fight but thats usually something like worlds collide. I fyou have 5 mil sp and you cant fly a raven or you get owned in one, then you need to re-evaluate all that time you spent on industry skills and decide whether you wanna blow **** up or you wanna make stuff cause you are seriously lacking somewhere.
to the OP: highs: 6 arbalest or t2 cruise launchers 2 E500 prototypes nos or 2 tractors your choice depending on mission difficulty
mids: usually 2 active of one resist and 2 active of the other pertinent (ie guristas 2 kinetic/2 thermal, or sansha 2em/2therm)
lows: 3t2 BCU 2 ts pds
you'll tank pretty much everything a level 3 can throw at you. i would however suggest that before you try even the easiest level 4 missions, that you read up and have a very good understanding of what ship types you are facing, where a jump gate or warp in will land you, and what damage types to use, level 3 missions are incredibly easy in a raven and i suggest you go for it. its funny cause most of my corp will still only do level 3 missions and they all have 20mil + sp and they **** when i "help" them through 4's showing them how and tanking for them, then again, i have a CNR.
